News Release: The Avoca Group Announces Virtual 2020 Avoca Quality and Innovation Summit

The Avoca Group announced the agenda for its 2020 Avoca Quality and Innovation Summit. The event, which will be held virtually on October 14–15, will explore the role of quality as the foundation of clinical trials and the need for innovation in study execution.

Across two days of interactive sessions, panel discussions, and workshops, attendees will engage with their peers and thought leaders to understand and influence global change. The event features a deep-dive workshop on ICH E6 (R3) to help attendees prepare for upcoming regulatory changes, as well as sessions on tailoring risk management strategies to different sized organizations and establishing patient-centered drug development strategies.

“The global pandemic has been a catalyst for change. As an industry, we are reimagining long-held approaches to clinical trial execution. Regulators, technologists, pharmaceutical companies, and their partners are now exploring new ways of working that will be a better fit for all stakeholders, with patients being the most important stakeholders of all,” said Patricia Leuchten, Founder and CEO, The Avoca Group. “Avoca is proud to contribute to this work by bringing together professionals from across the industry as part of our 2020 Quality and Innovation Summit to discuss the issues that will define the future of clinical trials.”

Now in its ninth year, the Avoca Summit offers leaders a chance to “Own the Future” through participation in a diverse, collaborative program that facilitates the free flow of ideas between patients, pharmaceutical companies, and thought leaders who are accelerating adoption of new technologies and operating models in clinical trial execution.

A unique aspect of Avoca events is bringing views of people from outside clinical research to provide Summit attendees the opportunity to look at challenges through a distinctly different lens. In keeping with this approach, featured speakers will include Majid Iqbal, a world expert in organization design and the Strategic Design Lead of DEEP, the Digital Endpoints Ecosystem and Protocols initiative, and Jim Lawless, the bestselling author of Taming Tigers.

Both Majid and Jim will inspire new ways of thinking on how we are approaching current challenges and opportunities. They will share their diverse experiences working to drive change across many industries.

Brian Burk, Head of Life Sciences at Verizon, will describe Verizon’s role as a catalyst for change in clinical trial execution. Other Executive Spotlights will include Coleen Glessner, Chief Quality Officer at Alexion, and Dineo Lioma, CEO of Deep Medical Therapeutics. Mark Matousek, a leading author and journalist, will describe his patient journey and how a clinical trial saved his life.

C-suite executives and heads of clinical operations, quality, regulatory, procurement, and innovation from across biopharma, clinical service providers, clinical research sites, and technology companies will participate in and attend the event.
